1. Städtische Gesamtschule Gummersbach
Gesamtschule Gummersbach is situated in the "Oberbergischer Kreis", a region East of the Rhine area. Gummersbach is a county town. Economy and society are to be called middle-class. A lot of people commute to towns and cities along the Rhine. 7,5% of the population is unemployed.
Gesamtschule Gummersbach is the largest school in this county and is attended by pupils from Gummersbach but also by pupils from the towns nearby. Our school has all-day schooling. International exchanges are an integral part of the school programme. Our school maintains a close relationship to partnerschools in Greece, in the Czech Republic and in the Netherlands.
Our school is supported by competent partners as Sparkasse Gummersbach-Bergneustadt, Aggerverband (local water supply) and the wall paper producer AS-Creation which is internationally known. These partners are ready to put their spacial, logistic and scientific facilities to the school´s disposal during the Comenius project.
Gesamtschule Gummersbach will overtake the role of the coordinating school and was host to the preparatory visit which took place in Gummersbach with two teachers from Romania and one teacher from Turkey who came at her own expense.
2. Liceul Banatean Otelu Rosu
Grup Scolar Industrial is situated in the town of Otelu Rosu, County of Caras-Severin, located in the West of Romania. Water has played a very important role in the economic life of the town, regardless the type of water: subsoil water or surface water. The biggest river flowing here is called “Bistra”. In ancient times, the Roman way that started from Lederata and ended Ulpia Traiana Sarmisegetusa, was crossing our town. Grup Scolar Industrial Otelu Rosu is the only high school on an area of 40 km, having classes both for the theoretical field and the technological one. Depending on their choice and skills, the students may choose the scientific, humanistic, technical fields or even services. Specialties that may be attended in our organization range from those belonging to the general knowledge - Philology, Biology, Mathematics & Informatics, up to those connected to technical knowledge of specialty - Mechanics, Electromechanics and Services, by using direct or progressive classes, the number of 1150 students of our school are divided into 42 classrooms, and are trained by 84 teachers. Starting with 2002, our school has managed Phare-TVET Programmes “Development of human resources in technical training”. The economical and social understanding has led to the school endowment and formation of 15 teachers who have developed competences of project managements , alongside with others, very useful for the future project.
3. Ankara Türk Telekom Mehmet Kaplan Sosyal Bilimler Lisesi
Turk Telekom Social Sciences High School is situated in the centre of Ankara, the capital of Turkey, which is also the capital of culture and art. Ankara is the second largest city. Centrally located in Anatolia, Ankara is an important commercial and industrial city. It has been the neural center of the Turkish Government, and houses all foreign embassies. It is an important crossroads of trade, strategically located at the center of Turkey's highway and rail network, and serves as the marketing center for the surrounding agricultural area.
Our school was set up six years ago and started taking students according to their Maths and Turkish points in the exam. Our school’s aim is to educate students in social sciences. When they finish the school, our students may study on psychology, sociology, law, management, history, literature etc.
Our school has all-day schooling and more than half of the students are boarder. They come from all around Turkey, so our school houses different cultures.
The school is supported by some authorities as Faculty of Letters of Hacettepe University, State Hydraulic Works (DSI) and Goethe-Institut in Ankara. These supporters are ready to carry our studies within the Comenius project.
Our German Teacher, Mrs. Özdemir, actively participated in the preparatory visit at her own expense and the visit was very successful.
